BOZEMAN — Following a come-from-behind victory against Helena High in Class AA loser-out play, the Flathead Bravettes fell 3-1 to Bozeman to earn a fourth-place finish at the Class AA State Volleyball Tournament on Friday at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

After defeating C.M. Russell in three sets 25-21, 25-20, 25-18 in the morning, Flathead trailed 2-0 to Helena, but hung on to force five sets and win 7-25, 20-25, 27-25, 25-20, 21-19 in an afternoon matchup. The fifth set saw multiple lead changes and was tied seven times.

That win earned Flathead another shot at Bozeman, who also beat Flathead in the opening round on Thursday 3-0.

Bozeman will take on Billings West in the third-place match at 11 a.m. today and the winner faces Helena Capital at 1 p.m. for the championship.

In Class A play, Libby settled for fourth for the second year in a row, falling 25-22, 25-11, 22-25, 25-22 to Corvallis in the fourth-place game. Libby downed Columbia Falls earlier in the day.

“The kids had a great season, you can’t take away the accomplishiments they achieved all year,” Libby coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said.

“They gave it a good run here. I felt they left it all out there. They played hard, It didn’t go our way.”

Columbia Falls beat Glendive 27-25, 25-14, 25-18, 22-25, 15-13 in loser-out play Friday before losing to Libby in the next round.

Whitefish’s day ended with a 22-25, 27-25, 25-19, 25-13 loss to Hardin in loser-out play.
