B football all-stars also canceled

Last Friday it was the Knights of Columbus Badlands Bowl and on Saturday the final piece to Montana’s usually busy summer All-Star schedule was canceled: The Class B Big Sky All-Star football game.

The Class B game was to be played June 13 at Rocky Mountain College’s Klindt Field, but instead joined several other all-star events canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The list includes: The Badlands Bowl, the Midland Roundtable Montana-Wyoming basketball series, the East-West Shrine football game, the Bob Cleverly 8-man Football All-Star Game, the 6-man Football All-Stars and the Shodair Soccer Classic.

“We were just hopeful that maybe by this date things would have changed a little bit as far as the number of people in groups and those types of things,” Roundup’s Chad Sealey, director for the Class B game, told 406mtsports.com. “Since they haven’t, we can’t keep kids on campus and keep the social distancing and obviously when you are playing football, you are pretty close to each other. It just doesn’t meet the requirements.”

No Class B All-Stars rosters generally are made public in early June, but Bigfork coach Patrick Munson said that Vikings Rob Kaiser and David Wickwire were set to play.

Eureka coach Trevor Utter had Lions AJ Pacella, Chance Muller and Grady Seal going to Billings.

“All of the activities and school these seniors have missed is a real shame,” said Utter, who has guided Eureka to three State B titles in the last four years. “No spring sports and now no all-star games of any kind, it appears. It will leave a big hole in them forever.”
