The Flathead City-County Health Department said Thursday an additional Flathead County resident has died from COVID-19-related complications, bringing the area’s total virus fatality count to 82.

A news release from the health department did not provide any additional details about the individual.

“We extend our sympathies to the loved ones impacted by this death,” said Flathead County Health Officer Joe Russell. “Until the vaccine is more widely available, we ask everyone to continue to help us protect our most vulnerable by social distancing, wearing a mask, and staying home when you are sick.”

Data from the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services shows nearly 1,400 Montanans have died from COVID-19-related issues. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 100,000 individuals have tested positive for the virus, though there are less than 1,000 active cases currently.

State data also shows more than 345,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered since vaccination efforts began in December. At least 132,000 Montanans are fully immunized.
