Spring sports begin after one-year hiatus

Spring sports are set to get underway for the Vikings and Valkyries for the first time since 2019 as golf, tennis and track and field were scheduled to begin practices Monday.

Coming off a 2019 season that saw both the boys and girls take second at state, Bigfork High School’s tennis teams are set to open the season at home April 1 with the Bigfork Invite and will be at home again on the 17th for another invitational. Bigfork will also host Troy April 23 and Superior on May 6 before hosting Troy for the Divisional Tournament May 15.

The Class B/C Tennis Meet will be held at Missoula’s Playfair Park May 20-22.

Golf season gets underway April 9-10 as the Vikings and Valkyries travel to the Indian Springs Golf Club for the Eureka Invite. Bigfork’s team will be at home April 15 as Eagle Bend Golf Course hosts the Steve Hullett Invitational. Eagle Bend will also host the Divisional Tournament May 12.

The Class B State Golf Tournament will be held at the Eaglerock Golf Course in Billings May 18-19.

The Vikes and Vals will compete in their first track meet of the season next weekend as the teams travel to the Eureka Starter Meet March 27. The teams are coming off a 2019 season that saw the Valkyries take seventh at state while the Vikings were 15th.

Bigfork will host a track meet April 3 with the District Meet set to take place in Eureka May 15, Divisionals will be at Missoula Big Sky May 21-22 and state will be in Laurel May 27-29.

The busiest weekends for the Bigfork teams this spring will take place April 15, when golf hosts the Steve Hullett Invitational, track will be at Thompson Falls and tennis will be in Ronan and April 29, when golf will be at St. Regis, track at Libby and tennis at Anaconda.
