Whitefish Theatre Co. presents its third Black Curtain production of the season, “Ripcord” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26 and 27.

This comedy is “The Odd Couple” meets “The Golden Girls” in this over-the-top story from award-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire. The play follows two women at the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility who make a seemingly harmless bet over who gets the sunny side of the room. The bet hilariously escalates into an outrageous game of one-upmanship between the two roommates, revealing the tenacity of these worthy opponents.

“A ripcord is a cord or wire pulled in making a descent to release a parachute out of its container,” director Katie Nixon said. “In many ways, release is the perfect word to describe ‘Ripcord,’ this fabulous play by the always brilliant David Lindsay-Abaire. It provides a release of laughter with abandon, it is smart deceit, and it is friends and family showing loving sweetness while facing hard truths. This show is truly a ‘ripcord’ for our most basic human emotions, allowing us to lift up as we descend.”

Tickets for Whitefish Theatre Co.’s “Ripcord’ are $12 for adults and $10 for students with general seating.

Viewers are reminded that as a Black Curtain production, there will minimal staging, no set or props, and actors will be reading from a script.

As a special note, Whitefish Theatre Co. is offering free admission to this show for any government employee affected by the current shutdown. Employees should bring their government ID for their free ticket.
