Fear and hatred will not have the last word
Many of us in the Flathead Valley have just completed a weekend of worship. We prayed, sang hymns, listened to sermons and read sacred stories. Tragically, this weekend we witnessed the horror of senseless violence and death, the murders that took place at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. We responded with painful grief, sorrow and love for the victims, their families and the Jewish community.

Vote for Initiative 185 — Here’s why. This initiative is a tax on the sale of tobacco projects in order to reauthorize the state’s Medicaid expansion. Beginning in 2016 federal dollars paid 100 percent of the cost to expand Medicaid in Montana and provide medical insurance for nearly 100,000 of our residents who were previously unable to have medical insurance and were not eligible for Medicaid. Over the next few years the states have to pickup only 10 percent of the cost of expanding Medicaid; the federal government will continue to fund at 90 percent.

Will 100,000 Montanans' health care go up in smoke?
As $12 million of misleading negative ads roll out over Montana’s airwaves, we could be watching the health care of 100,000 Montanans go up in smoke. Big Tobacco is trying to buy Montana in a cynical, immoral attempt to bolster their market and profits to the detriment of Montana families.
Join me in voting no on I-185
If you watch any television you can’t help seeing advertisements for and against I 185. It’s pretty confusing. I have decided to speak out against the initiate for several important reasons. Before explaining those I also want to affirm my view that we ought to be willing to help those who aren’t able to help themselves. Montanans have always been generous and caring about their neighbors.
Tobacco is costing you money, even if you don't use it

Bundys in Whitefish: Their ideology is not welcome here
What kind of Flathead Valley do we want to call home? In the not so distant past, we became an unwilling host to ideologies steeped in violent threats and the dogma of “The National Policy Institute.” Our community observed, scrutinized and emphatically rejected the abject convictions of Andrew Anglin and Richard Spencer. Action overcame indifference, and resolve surmounted the threats. “We the people” resoundingly let them know that neither their teachings nor their postures were welcome in Montana or the Flathead Valley.
