Arlene Launer

Arlene E. Launer, 85, passed away at Riverside Senior Living in Whitefish on Aug. 2, 2004.

She was born in Mandan, N.D., on Aug. 30, 1918, the daughter of Carl (Charley) and Amelia Lohstreter. She had two younger brothers and a sister.

Arlene married Carl Launer in 1944. They had two children, Carlene and Charles. The family moved from Scranton, N.D., to Columbia Falls in 1952.

Arlene was a graduate of Winona Teacher's College in Winona, Minn. She taught school in Nebraska, North Dakota and Montana and worked for the Flathead County Superintendent of Schools. Arlene was active in St. Richard's Altar Society and Columbia Falls Church Women United. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and handcrafts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carl; her brother Lloyd; and her sister Phyllis.

Arlene is survived by a brother, Kenneth, of Mandan, N.D.; a daughter, Charlene, of Morgan, Calif.; and a son, Charles, of Columbia Falls.

The Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 9, 2004, at St. Richard's Catholic Church in Columbia Falls. Burial followed at Glacier Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested in Arlene's name to the American Cancer Society.
