Lake swim race planned Aug. 29

The Whitefish Lake Swim will be held Sunday, Aug. 29. The one-mile race will start and finish at Whitefish City Beach. Check-in is at 8 a.m., race time at 9:15 a.m. Race fee is $20 for U.S. Masters Swimming members, $25 for nonmembers. Fee includes a towel for the first 50 registrants. Par 3 is hole-in-one haven
Par 3 on 93 Golf Course posted two holes-in-one over the past two weeks.
On Sunday, Aug. 1, Henry Hofeldt of Whitefish got a hole-in-one on the 90-yard 9th hole. He used his sand wedge. It was witnessed by Logan Stephens.
On Friday, Aug. 6, David Koplovich of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, used a pitching wedge to get a hole-in-one on the 90-yard 9th hole. It was witnessed by Tom Curran and Phil Fischer.
Soccer tryouts
are Monday
Whitefish High School boys and girls soccer tryouts are Monday August 16. The girls begin at 7 a.m. at the high school track and continue at 5 p.m. at Smith Fields. The boys begin at 8 a.m. at Smith Fields and continue at 5 p.m. at Smith Fields. Cleats, shin guards, socks, running shoes and plenty of water are required.
Bring all of your paperwork; signed by players and their parents. If you do not have the proper forms filled out you will not try out until they are in. Student athlete packets are available at the district office at Central School.

Mandatory
parents meeting tonight
A mandatory parent meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, in the Whitefish High School gymnasium for parents of any student interested in participating in a Montana High School sponsored activity at Whitefish High School for the coming school year. Students will not be allowed to practice unless their parents attend the meeting. Additional dates will be offered for winter and spring sports. Call 862-8600, ext. 453 if you have any questions.
Volleyball tryouts start Friday
All girls in grades 9 to 12 interested in trying out for volleyball at Whitefish High School are invited to an informational meeting at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, in the girl's locker room at the high school. Twins name
season MVPs
Matt LeLievre and Ty Mikkelson were named the Glacier Twins' most valuable players for the season at a team meeting last weekend. LeLievre was the team's batting champ with a .391 average and 59 RBIs to lead all hitters.
Mikkelson was second at the plate with a .365 average, and went 4-2 as a pitcher. He posted a very respectable 4.02 ERA on the mound, and played shortstop when he wasn't pitching.
"Both these guys did a great job this year, especially at the plate. Matt was our strongest hitter, and Ty did almost as well while also turning in a great season as a pitcher," said Twins head coach Jack Helber.
Freshman football pratice starting
Freshman football's first practice will be Aug. 18 at 9:30 a.m. There will be an equipment checkout on Monday, Aug.16 at 6:30 p.m. at WHS locker room.

Golf tourney benefits Big Mt. Firefighters Association
The Big Mountain Firefighters Association will host its second annual golf tournament on Sept. 19 at the Big Mountain Golf Club. The best ball tournament benefits the Big Mountain Firefighters by raising funds for equipment and supplies. Grand prize for this year's tournament is a season pass to the Big Mountain Ski Resort.
Big Mountain Ski Resort has added a special first responder team prize to honor all the first responders in the valley. Other prizes include gifts and merchandise from more than 40 businesses across the valley, including raft trips from Glacier Wilderness Guides/Montana Raft Company and gift certificates at many restaurants around the valley.
Cost is $55 per player or $220 for a team of four, which includes golf, lunch, and a Big Mountain Ski Resort 2 for 1 ski coupon good during the 2004-2005 ski season.
