Hopeless deficit

| August 25, 2004 11:00 PM

To the editor,

As I see it, our government is headed for a $477 billion deficit this year due to tax cuts that have to do with tax rebates to the wealthy. To me, this situation will or could get worse or maybe hopeless.

Our Congress members are desperate to find ways to pay these staggering deficits. Congress will give, or are giving, Social Security and Medicare a good hard look for funds, which these two are no exemption.

A petition has been filed on the House floor, which is being brought to a vote. As anyone knows, this could or would be devastating, if the vote turns out right.

Social Security and Medicare are the main and certain ones on the line for devastating cuts that would greatly weaken these two programs.

As we all know, Social Security and Medicare were never meant for these purposes, that our government is bent on using them for, and as a taxpaying voter, I would like to see the right action.

Instead of just being considered to make the voters feel a bit better, as you know, we tax-paying, voting citizens are or should be the boss, when these kinds of things are in the wash.
