| December 9, 2004 11:00 PM

Sports Brief

December 14 will be a day to remember for students of the Sawbuck Do Jang in Whitefish. Tyler Ferguson and Evan Harris, have both successfully tested for their black belts in karate. The setting was in a Colorado gymnasium. The testing board was comprised of five master-level practitioners with more than one hundred years of cumulative experience.

There were 18 testing candidates and the benches were lined with students who had already tested or were preparing for this experience. Last week it became official. Tyler and Evan will join the group of over 42,000 who have acheived the Dan (black belt) level in the United States Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation. This coming Tuesday (Dec. 14) they will receive their new uniform and belts. This Tuesday will also be a celebration for three other students at the Sawbuck Do Jang - Abby Cockrell, Justine Dugdale, and Taylor Ferguson (Tyler's sister) will all reach an impressive landmark. These three girls will all be starting their sixth year of training in Soo Bahk Do. They all started on Dec. 14, 1999. The public is invited to join in this celebration at the Sawbuck Do Jang, located inside the Downtowner Motel at 4 p.m. this coming Tuesday, Dec. 14.
