Forest 'roughage'

| July 14, 2004 11:00 PM

To the editor,

Concerning Mr. Burns and his camping trip on the east side of the Hungry Horse Reservoir, he was complaining about the condition of the, shall I say, Forest Service road.

Well, to my way of thinking, if a person is heading into the woods for a camping trip and can't stand the conditions, maybe this person should have stayed on the asphalt, where it's nice and smooth.

As we all know, camping is suppose to be roughing it a slight bit. Back a few years, even the patrolled camping facilities were unpaved for overnight stays.

So I say, if you are going to spend a couple of days to get away from the hub-bub of city life and go camping, then don't go where you might injure your vehicle.

After all, camping is roughing it. To get away from the paved roads, a true camper just grins and bears the roughage that goes with a forest outing.
