Council's vote on Patriot Act was democracy in action

Last Tuesday the Whitefish City Council passed a resolution that promotes our U.S. Constitution and opposes provisions in the USA Patriot Act that violate our rights. Way to go City Council! I was grateful to and then surprised by Councilman Doug Adams, who voted both to strengthen the wording of the resolution against the Patriot Act, and then voted against the resolution - even to the somewhat unusual point of including a condition in the resolution that states that he voted against it. But, well - whatever. It's great to see democracy in action - with Cris Coughlin, Tom Muri, Velvet Phillips-Sullivan and Mayor Andy Feury standing up for our rights. Thank you! The City Council action was a true showing of the United States I know and love.

Breast cancer luncheon raised

money for Wings

Thank you for your support of the 6th annual Louise Burk Memorial Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon. The luncheon and accompanying program have proven to be a great opportunity to provide information and promote breast cancer awareness to many individuals whose lives and those of whom they love have been or may be deeply affected by this disease. We are very pleased to tell you that together with each of you, we are donating $4,800 from this year's luncheon and silent auction proceeds to the Wings Foundation. We appreciate and value all of your contributions towards the success of this event. We are looking forward to the 7th annual Luncheon to be held on May 6, 2005. Thank you for your continued support.

Thanks for Relay for Life support

Thanks Whitefish! We would like to thank all of the people who supported us in the Relay for Life at the Whitefish High School track. The Class of 2004 generously sponsored our team. Imagination Station donated wonderful prizes for our Kiddie Carnival games and the WHS art students decorated some beautiful luminaries. It was a very moving experience to walk around the track in the candlelight, listening to the bagpipes play while the names of cancer survivors and cancer victims were read. We hope the funds that were donated will enable the American Cancer Society to continue to support the research needed to help cancer patients, their families and friends. It is a disease that touches us all.
