Swim team takes first, hosts home meet
The Columbia Falls swim team took first place in Cut Bank last weekend, gathering momentum as the team hosts its home meet this Saturday and Sunday.
Several swimmers stood out last Saturday, said Lexie Kolodejchuk, who is taking over head coaching duties for the next couple of weeks while Ryan Nevins is out of town.
"Bria Ward did a great job in the 50 meter fly," Kolodejchuk said. "Mandy Wilson did an awesome job, too. There were a few girls (from other teams) she wanted to beat, and she took first in the finals on Sunday."
Kolodejchuk said Alan Newton turned in another good performance.
"All the kids did great on Saturday. In fact, most of them took off times in their events, which was especially good because they were swimming in a yard pool (instead of a shorter meter pool)," she said. "They were really racing last weekend, not just swimming to complete their event."
The swim team will play host to about a dozen teams from around the area this weekend in the team's only home meet on Saturday and Sunday.
"We're looking to support the kids all the way through. It would be nice for them to win their home meet," Kolodejchuk said.
