Fond memories of Edwards

| July 22, 2004 11:00 PM

We mourn this week the passing of J. Gordon Edwards, Glacier National Park's consummate climber.

Edwards was more than just the author of The Climber's Guide to Glacier National Park. He was friend to many Hungry Horse News staffers, both past and present.

Edwards would learn about an adventure one of us took in Glacier and write a long letter in response. We kept those letters, of course. They were handwritten, informative and entertaining.

Edwards also had a knack for bringing out the best in Glacier. Long horrible traverses became "scenic death marches" in Edward's eye.

We will miss Edwards. But we also are comforted in the fact that he died doing what he did best, hiking and climbing in and around Glacier National Park.

Goodbye Gordon Edwards. Happy trails to you.
