Frances Ellen Callies
Frances Ellen Callies, 87, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2004, at North
Valley Hospital, where she was undergoing tests.
She was born Nov. 30, 1916, to Julius and Christine Anderson, on the family farm at Douglas, N.D. Frances married Herb Callies on June 24, 1937 in Minot, N.D. In 1945, after two years in Seattle, the couple returned to Garrison. In 1951 they moved to Whitefish and have resided in Happy Valley the last 33 years.
Frances is survived by Herb, her husband of 67 years; a sister, Marguerite Grindberg, Williston, N.D.; two daughters, Linda Bakeberg, Issaquah, Wash., and Janet Card, Glen Allen, Va.; one son, Tom Callies, Chula Vista, Calif.; six grandchildren, Susie Hall, Phil Card, Mary Carson, Julie Ferris, Shawna Martin, Meghann Callies and six great-grand children.
She was a life-long Lutheran and was active in the church life of Christ Lutheran Church, participating in Circle and teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Frances was a committed Christian and will be remembered as a devoted, caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She always put the needs of others before her own.
A memorial Celebration of Life service was held Wednesday, July 28, at Christ Lutheran Church. Memorial gifts may be made in
Frances' name to Christ Lutheran Church.
