Ruth Greene

| September 8, 2004 11:00 PM

Ruth Eid Greene passed away Aug. 30, 2004, at the Immanuel Lutheran Home, where she has been residing since Sept. 6, 2002, of natural causes.

Ruth was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Greenbush, Minn. She grew up on the family farm on Helena Flats Road. Ruth worked at Boeing Aircraft during World War II and worked at the Montana Veterans Home prior to that. She sold Stanley Products and baked goods, especially her sweet petals and lefsa, in her later years.

She married Howard Greene on Oct. 7, 1945, and they had four children: Dale, Betty, Mahlon and Gregory. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, especially during its original construction and its expansion. She belonged to the Ladies Aid and Mission Society. She was one of the organizers of the annual Smorgasbord for Our Savior's for years, where she was well known for her meatballs.

Ruth enjoyed crafts, making quilts and card games, but she was best known for her baking. Visitors to her home always received a good cup of coffee and a freshly baked item or some smoked fish. Howard and Ruth moved to Ashley Lake for their retirement and they loved traveling around the U.S. and Canada, especially their trips to Alaska.

Ruth was very strong in her faith, her morals and her integrity. She always looked for the way to forgive a wrong, understand a dilemma, and had more physical endurance than most women her age. Her family lovingly called her the "ever ready bunny."

Ruth is survived by her husband Howard Greene; son Dale Greene and wife Marsha and children Joel, Todd and Taryn; daughter Betty Sevre and husband Jim and children Brandie and Michelle; son Mahlon Greene and wife Sherry and children Jesse, Shawn and Erik; son Gregory Greene and wife Tana and children Cale and Erika; great grandchildren Makaiah, Derek, Travis and Jacob; brother Lorn Eid; sister Helen Halverstadt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother Pauline Eid; father Carl Eid; sister Irene Wyman; and brothers Cyril Eid and Vernon Eid.

A funeral service was held Sept. 4, 2004, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Columbia Falls, with Pastor Tom Gopp officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family has suggested that memorials be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 2770, Columbia Falls MT 59912 for the Ruth Greene Memorial Fund.
