Katherine "Katie" Mueller

| April 6, 2005 11:00 PM

As the sun rose over the mountains, Katie's spirit soared to Heaven. She passed away at the Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell at the age of 86. Born in Podolsk, Russia, to Austrian parents, interred by Russians during the 1918 Revolution, and immigrated to Detroit, Mich., at age 7 with her parents Anton and Kathe Markel. She never forgot her beloved Austria. She married Joseph Mueller at the age of 18.

Katie for several years was a secretary and caregiver until illness and age prohibited her. She moved with her daughter Dorothy to Sturgis, Mich., for five years and then to Montana near Glacier Park where the mountains reminded her of her beloved Austria.

Katie always remembered her lifelong friends, checking her calendar for birthdays and other special occasions. She would take herself in her wheelchair to the little gift shop at Immanuel Lutheran Home, where she spent her last year, and picked out that special card just for them.

Katie will be laid to rest with her husband Joseph and her parents at Mt. Olivetti Cemetery in Detroit.

Katie is survived by her daughters, Joan Brown of Lyons, Ore.; Marie Mitchell of Bigfork, and Dorothy Mueller of Sturgis, Mich.; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and a brother Anton Markel of Roseville, Mich.

There are no services planned at this time for Katie Mueller. Any memorial contributions may be sent to the Immanuel Lutheran Home Recreation Department, 185 Crestline Avenue, Kalispell, MT 59901

Johnson Mortuary and Crematory is caring for Katie's family.
