South Fork reopens

Rain and snow Friday have slowed fires in the Bob Marshall considerably, allowing the main trails to reopen in part as well as the South Fork of the Flathead River to floating.

The following are trail and river openings, with noted restrictions:

1) The East Side Trail (Forest Trail #80)

beginning at the Wilderness Boundary 1 mile south of Meadow Creek Trailhead

continuing south to it's junction with the West Side Trail #263; and

re-opening south from the the Black Bridge Connector Trail #80D; 2) Mid

Creek Trail #103 from it's junction with the East Side Trail #80 to its

junctions with the Harrison Creek Trail #584 and the Silver Creek Trail

#89; 3) Silvertip Creek Trail #89 from it's junction with the Spotted Bear

River Trail #83 to its junctions with the Mid Creek Trail #103 and the

Harrison Creek Trail #584.

The entire South Fork of the Flathead River

will be opened to float trips, with a restriction on camping on a 10-mile

0002000005D4000003E85CE,portion of the river near the Kelly Point Fire. The no camping section on

the river will extend from the confluence of the river and Little Salmon

Creek north to one-quarter mile south of Mid Creek. The no camping restriction will apply to an area 1 mile on either side of the river in this corridor.

Access Restrictions: 1) The East Side Trail (Forest Trail #80) beginning at

the junction with the West Side Trail #263 at the Black Bear ford, which is

1/4- mile south of Black Bear Creek, and continuing 2 miles south to its

junction with Black Bear Bridge Connector Trail #80D; 2) West Side South

Fork Trail (Forest Trail #263) beginning at the Hungry Creek Trail #105

south to the junction of Forest Trail #29, Little Salmon Creek Trail;

3)Hungry Creek Trail #105 beginning at the West Side trail #263 to where it

connects and becomes the Picture Ridge Trail #107; 4) Picture Ridge Trail

#107 beginning at the Hungry Creek Trail #105 to it's junction with the

Picture Point Trail #226; 5) Picture Point Trail #226 from where it takes

off of Picture Ridge Trail #107 to it's junction with the Gorge Creek Trail

#218; 6) Black Bear Creek Trail #220 beginning at the East Side Trail #80

to it's junction with the Hodag Ridge Trail #701; 7) Hodag Ridge Trail

#701 beginning at the East Side Trail # 80 to it's junction with Black Bear

Creek Trail #220; 8) Rambler Creek Trail #524 from it's junction with Black

Bear Creek Trail #220 to it's junction with the Mid Creek Trail #103.
