Bear talk

Montanans For Multiple Use invites the public to attend its July 19 meeting at 7 p.m. at the Fish Wildlife and Parks Building, 800 Meridian Road across from the Fairgrounds in Kalispell. Chris Servheen, the biologist leading the grizzly bear recovery project, will be the guest speaker. Servheen will provide updates on the latest grizzly bear research and recommendations for future bear population and habitat management needs, especially for the Flathead portion of the Northern Continental Divide Grizzly Habitat Ecosystem.

Concert series

The 2005 Lions Club Concert series continues at Marantette Park this Thursday (tonight) with a tribute to Paul Lawrence. Concert starts at 8 p.m. Cost is a donation. The July 7 concert is Montana Midnight, a classical guitar quartet.

Winners of the door prizes at the Don Lawrence concert June 23 were: Valery Ellingson, Kalispell; Marilyn Shull, Kalispell; and Bonnie Craft, Columbia Falls. There will be door prizes every Thursday drawn either at the mid-break or at the conclusion of the concert.

Drilling at the Dam

There will be test drilling at the Hungry Horse Dam for about the next two weeks to do long core samples and assess the health of the 51-year-old structure. A drill rig will take up one lane of traffic on the dam. As such, one lane of traffic will be closed and motorists are urged to use extreme caution.

Burgess Dean's

Stephanie Burgess of Columbia Falls has been named to the Dean's list for the spring semester at the College of Saint Benedict/St. John's University. Burgess is a music major and the daughter of Jack and Mary Burgess.

QRU bake sale

The Middle Fork Quick Response Unit will hold its annual bake sale and craft fair July 1-2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. A small rental fee for booths will be charged. Call 888-5607 for more information.

Toastmasters

There will be no Columbia Falls Toastmaster meeting on July 4 due to the holiday. The next Columbia Falls Toastmaster's meeting will be Monday July 11 from noon - 1 p.m. The business portion starts promptly at 12:10 p.m. The meetings are being held at the City Hall council chambers at 130 Sixth St. W. Potluck dinner

Patriotic potluck dinner begins at 5:30 p.m., Friday, July 1, at North Valley Senior Center. Program of patriotic music and sing along with the Troubadours is under the direction of Marie Basaraba. Members and guests with July birthdays will be honored. More details may be obtained by calling Roxy Larsen, Center manager, at 892-4087.

Fireworks

There will be a fireworks display by the North Valley Eagles here July 3 at dark. Whitefish fireworks start at dark at City Beach July 4. The Polebridge parade will be noon on July 4.
