Student of the week

Jade Morstad, a senior at Columbia Falls High School, has been chosen student of the week for May 2. She was nominated because she helped do a task without being asked and is always polite and friendly- a genuinely kind person. Jade is the daughter of Nick and Mary Morstad, of Columbia Falls, and receives a personal pan pizza compliments of Pizza Hut.

Relay for Life

The Flathead's Relay for Life will be held at Flathead High's Legend Field in Kalispell on June 24-25. Team captains or anyone wishing to organize a team for this year's event is invited to a team captain's meeting May 11. There will be two meetings held simultaneously from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., one in Whitefish in the Glacier Room at North Valley Hospital and one in Kalispell at New West Health Services, 1203 Highway 2 West, Suite 45 (Gateway West Mall-West entrance). Teams who submit their team registration by May 11 will be eligible for prize drawings. For more information, contact Betty Mace at 751-3353 day, or 756-1970 evening, or Joan Paulson at 862-5374.

Bowhunter ed

A bowhunter education course will be offered in Columbia Falls on the following schedule: 6:30-9 p.m. on May 10, 12 and 16 at the North Valley Community Center. The field course will be held 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. To register, call Dave Yeats at 892-4527. All first-time bowhunters, regardless of age, must complete the bowhunter education course to purchase an archery stamp in Montana. The course is free of charge.

Grad meeting

A graduation party meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 9 at the high school cafeteria. Anyone interested in Pizza Hut Gold Cards to support the Class of 2005 can call Lorinda Walter at 892-4916.

Chamber meets

The Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce will meet Tuesday, May 10, at 11:30 a.m. at the North Valley Community Center. Speaker is Dave Dahlen, chief of interpretation at Glacier National Park.

Forestry Expo

The Forestry Expo takes place this weekend at the Trumbull Experimental Forest up Half Moon Road.

Additions this year include exhibits featuring gold mining, Montana birds and the Lewis and Clark expedition. Exhibit tent is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Live wildlife exhibits and a forest walk are featured. Visitors will walk a 0.7-mile trail to see educational exhibits. A logging camp lunch, compliments of Family Forestry Expo, is served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days.

Saturday and Sunday events include FVCC logging sports team competition, logging equipment and mule-packing demonstrations, along with a hunter education trailer. These start at 10:30 and 1:30 a.m. on Saturday and at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Mill tours of Plum Creek Timber Co. plants are under way from 9:15 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday. A free bus shuttle is provided.
