Mildred S. Fleming

Mildred S. Fleming, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at her home in Columbia Falls. She was born on December 1, 1925 in Hanford, Calif. to Edward W. and Mary A. (Kindelberger) Scherf.

Mildred received her early education in Hanford, graduating from Hanford High School in 1942 before going on to attend business college in Fresno. She married Charles Bryan in Hanford and they were later divorced. Mildred worked for the Army for a short time. She also worked in accounting for Hanford High School and numerous small businesses in the San Joaquin Valley.

Mildred married James L. Fleming on March 24, 1958 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The couple moved to Alaska in 1959, then to Oregon from 1960 to 1967 before settling in Trout Creek, Mont. Mildred operated an accounting business out of her home for many years and was also the business manager for the Noxon Schools for 22 years before retiring in 1993. James passed away in 1983. Mildred moved to Columbia Falls in 1995 to live with her daughter. She kept herself very busy in retirement, volunteering for different organizations and just helping out when and wherever she was needed.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband James; her parents and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her two sons: Norris Bryan and wife Kathy of Sacramento, Calif; and James L. Fleming of Center Ridge, Ark.; her daughter: Susan A. Fleming of Columbia Falls; two nieces: Sandy Jordan and husband Craig of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and Carolyn Cook and husband John of Lake Stevens, Wash.; two grandchildren and one great grandson.

Memorial services for Mildred were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2005 at the First Baptist Church of Whitefish with Pastor Kent Morrison officiating.

Johnson Mortuary and Crematory is caring for Mildred's family.

Darrell S. Overcast

Darrell S. Overcast, 73, of Kalispell died Friday, May 6, 2005, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center of natural causes.

Darrell was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Havre to J. Boyd and Helen M. (Forbes) Overcast. He attended Havre public schools and then went to Spokane Barber College.

In 1960, Darrell married Joann Braaten in Havre. They were married for 44 years. Darrell worked for his father in the barber shop and had logged in the Flathead Forest. He retired from the BNSF Railway. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Darrell loved taking his youngest granddaughters to the cafe in the mornings to "drink coffee with the fellas" in Conrad. He coached the Trapline Boxing Club in the mid 1970s in Martin City. He loved fishing, hunting, golf and boxing. He was Golden Gloves light heavyweight and heavyweight champion in 1954-55.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Joe and Gene Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Joann of Conrad; children, Dennis Overcast of Havre, Darren Overcast of Columbia Falls, Darla Overcast and her husband, Jon Glessner of Marion, Dana (Doug) Baldwin of Conrad; sisters, Dora (Al) Signore of Newport Richy, Fla., Doris Loy of Mt. Sterling, Ky., Irene (Reid) Stuart of Conrad and Diana (Steve) Shipton of Panama City, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was held May 15 at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home Chapel in Kalispell.
