The Columbia Falls softball team had a particularly rough outing against Libby May 17, losing 25-1, but rebounded nicely against Browning last Friday before dropping a rough contest to Whitefish on Monday 4-2.

The 25 runs by Libby were the most the Wildkats have allowed in a game all year, and the girls saw the first nine Libby batters of the game score. Libby plated 13 runs in the first, then nine in the second and three in the fourth to run away with the game.

The Kats' offense barely showed up again, with sophomore Vanesha Riley, senior Kym Island and junior Crystal Schwarzrock collecting their only three hits. In the top of the fifth, Island drove home the only run on an RBI groundout.

The fielding was also an issue, as the Kats committed six errors.

Against Browning, Island pitched a one-hitter and stifled the Indian batters throughout most of the game.

For the offense, the number three figured prominently in the Kats victory.

Freshman Ashley Nickerson contributed three RBI and senior Amanda Puryer went 3-3 and scored three times. Seniors Stephanie Davis and Kalee Wolf each hit triples while Davis also drove in three runs. Sophomore Jenny Johnson also scored three times.

The fielding was fairly sloppy for both teams as each committed eight errors, but the Kats were able to overcome their mistakes en route to the victory.

Against Whitefish, the Kats fought hard, but came up short in their last game of the season.

Island went 1-2, Puryer went 1-3 with a double and an RBI and Riley also went 1-3.

The Kats did have chances against the Lady Bulldogs, loading the bases twice, but were unable to capitalize on those chances.

Columbia Falls finished the season at 4-17 overall and 3-9 in the conference.
