A sad day

| September 7, 2005 11:00 PM

My wife and I live directly across from this historic lodge.

Sept. 1 has provided us with a beautiful afternoon until about an hour ago—I heard the chain saws begin, I knew what this meant. I waited for that first crash of a tree

and it didn't take long. My wife also heard it, she joined me on the deck with tears in her eyes. The sadness we both felt, was devastating. That crash of that first tree was symbolic as to the hurt this community feels.

For those who don't understand why we live here and the love we have for our surrounding's, it is a shame.

I hope there is a wake up call for those who don't have a clue as to what the "last best place" means.

When we moved here nine-plus years ago I was told, if you moved here to get away from something, don't bring it with you. I am afraid these folks have no idea what that means. It is a sad situation.
