Horsemen meet

The Back Country Horsemen of the Flathead will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m., at the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Building, located at 490 North Meridian Road. The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome.

Concert series

The Lions Club Concert series continues this evening (Thursday) at 8 p.m. at Marantette Park, with the Don Lawrence Orchestra and tubist Ben Kirby. Next week, the concert series wraps up with a show by the Columbia Falls Community Choir at the same time and place.

Humane Society

The Humane Society will have a volunteer orientation meeting on Saturday, Aug. 5 at 10:30 a.m. Volunteers assist in animal care, community education, reception area/ client relations, foster care, fundraising, mobile adoptions, dog walking, and many other capacities. In addition there is also a mandatory Animal Care Training session for anyone wishing to work directly with the animals. This session is Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. For more information, please call 752-PAWS (7297). The Humane Society is located at 3499 Highway 93 North in Kalispell.

Sports meeting

There will be a preseason informational meeting for all athletes interested in trying out for fall athletic programs at Columbia Falls High School. The meeting is for parents and athletes and will be at the High School Little Theater on Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. Information will be provided on the Wildcat athletic program and each fall sport.

Forest plan

The Flathead National Forest has extended the comment period on the new Forest Plan until Sept. 7. The public is strongly encouraged to comment in writing by this date. Written comments postmarked by Sept. 7 will be included in the official record and considered in development of Final Land Management Plans. The Proposed Plans and accompanying maps are available at www.fs.fed.us/r1/wmpz. Aerobics at pool

Columbia Falls is looking at offering a water aerobics class at the city pool. Folks interested in participating are asked to call City Hall at 892-4391 with a preferred time.

Kids carnival

The annual Children's Carnival and Family Fun Night at the Immanuel Lutheran Home is Aug. 4 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 185 Crestline Ave. in Kalispell. There will be horse rides, a race track and other games as well as resident programs.
