Righting a wrong

I would like to reinforce Mr. Ridderhoff's writing in the Eagle regarding BLUAC's future. I agree with almost everything said. Calaway wouldn't be in business if it weren't for people moving into Bigfork. I do remember when unemployment was 19 percent in 1976 when we began building our home. Contractors were leaving or going out of business because there was nothing to build. But on the other hand now under Calaway's voting there isn't a subdivision he doesn't like. His voting record I guess is about 99.5 percent to approve every subdivision that has come up both here in Bigfork and as a member of the Flathead County Planning Board.

Is there ego involved? Well when someone says he has more knowledge about planning than anyone on the board seems just a wee bit more than egotistical. Will he be missed? No. Will planning continue? Yes. Will the people of Bigfork be more appropriately served? In my opinion a resounding yes.

Of course with BLUAC calling a special election meeting on Friday the 3rd of February I'm sure the "good ole boys" will "re-elect" both Calaway and Hollinger to BLUAC as I'm sure the leadership would not have called the meeting if they weren't sure they could have a majority of their cronies present.

We will have an opportunity in May to have a real election by the people—thanks to the Steering Committee's actions. We owe a vote of appreciation to those who have given so much of their time in righting this wrong in Bigfork.
