Eunice E. Johnson

Eunice E. Johnson, age 84, passed away Jan. 26, 2006, at her residence in the Lake Blaine area.

She was born March 26, 1921, in Strathcona, Minn., the daughter of Ingvold and Henrietta (Laurensen) Sands.

Eunice received her education in Minnesota. In 1936, at the age of 15, she moved to the Flathead Valley with her family. In 1942, she moved to Chicago and worked for Douglas Aircraft as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II. She moved back to the Flathead in 1952.

After moving here, she went to work for the Anaconda Aluminum Co. plant in Columbia Falls and kept busy raising here family, ending her job with the sluminum plant in the late 1950s. She held other various jobs in the valley until her retirement.

Eunice met Clyde Johnson and was later married to him on Aug. 13, 1995. Eunice attended the Assembly of God Church until her health prevented her from attending.

Eunice enjoyed some gardening, cooking and baking, especially pies, and she liked to embroider. She loved to take Sunday drives around Flathead Lake or through Glacier Park. She especially loved camping at Wayfarers Park in Bigfork. It was the music from the '30s and '40s that captured her musical attention.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, former husband Sid Michaels, and six siblings.,

She is survived by her husband Clyde Johnson, of Kalispell; daughters Sandi Daniel, of Denver, Colo., and Sharon Juclfs and Sonja Nestegard, both of Kalispell; grandchildren Allison Hawes, of Kalispell, and Heather Shipley, of Albuquerque, N.M., Matthew Juclfs, of Kalispell, and Joseph Gone, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and their spouses; sisters Gladys Milam and Beatrice Gordon, of Kalispell, and Clarice Hewitt, of California; brother Earl Sands, of Whitefish; and one honorary granddaughter, Rebecca Bouden, of Kalispell.

Funeral services were held Jan. 30, 2006, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor John Weaver officiating.
