Thelma Smith

Thelma Smith, age 93, passed away Feb. 7, 2006, at North Valley Hospital.

She was the first of six children born to Ephraim and Sadie Street. She was born at the family farm northwest of Kalispell. The family moved to Whitefish, where she attended grade school and high school, graduating in 1931. She was united in marriage to Elmer Smith on Dec. 25, 1931. They had one son, Gary.

Thelma was very active in Presbyterian Church, North Valley Hospital Auxiliary, Vista Chapter #44 Order of Eastern Star, and Mountains Trails Saddle Club when it existed. She served as treasurer for these organizations for many years. She was also honored as First Lady of Whitefish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and three brothers.

Surviving her is her son Gary and wife Ann, granddaughters Tracy Freeman and husband Bruce, with great granddaughters Lindsay and Dani, of Coralville, Iowa, Tami Barrett and husband John, with great grandchildren Kacie and Jackson, of Kalispell, and Toni Fischer and husband Craig, with great grandchildren Bryce and Lacie, of Kalispell; sisters Marvel Loganl of Columbia Fallsl and Allyce Streetl of Whitefish.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Presbyterian Church or the charity of choice.

A memorial service took place Feb. 13, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Whitefish.
