The Glacier Nordic Ski Team traveled to Jackson Hole, Wyo., Jan. 14-15 for the first of three Junior National Qualifier races for spots on the Intermountain Junior National Cross Country Team. There were more than 300 junior cross-country skiers at the event, ages 8-19, each in two-year divisions. The next qualifier will take place at Soldier Hollow, Utah, Jan. 27-28. The women's Northern Lights Hockey team won the Class B championship at the Flying Mule Hockey Festival in Missoula on Jan. 13-15. The Northern Lights defeated the Spokane Harleys 6-0, the Missoula Ice Hounds 7-4 and the Montana Express 4-0 en route to dropping the Ice Hounds 8-1 in the championship game. Leading the scoring for the Northern Lights were Lisa Aiken, Cody McCarthey, Martha Rendahl, Diana McKinley, Lini Reading, Lisa Sleisher, Shannon Hernandez and Mary Critchlow.
Little Guy Wrestling night will take place Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m. in conjunction with the Bulldogs' home wrestling match against Columbia Falls and Polson. Wrestlers who come to the match to sign up for the Little Guy program with a parent will receive a T-shirt and be able to attend the match free of charge. Little Guy wrestlers will be honorary captains and will lead the Bulldogs onto the mat for the Polson dual, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Whitefish Little Guy Wrestling is for boys grades 1-8 and runs for six weeks, culminating in the Western Montana Championship Tournament. Cost is $30, and scholarships are available. Practices begin Feb. 13 with grades 1 - 4 at Muldown School and grades 5 - 8 at the high school wrestling room. The 11th annual Blizzard Bowl will take place Saturday, Feb. 4, at 9 a.m. at the Conrad Complex in Kalispell. Proceeds go for improvements at the Conrad Complex. The event is sponsored by Flathead County Parks and Recreation and the Flathead Valley Softball Association. Cost is $200 for a 12-person team. All teams are co-rec.
