Juanita Logan
Juanita Haney Logan, 98, passed away at Heritage Place in Kalispell the morning of June 5, 2006.
Juanita was born Nov. 17, 1907, in Farmersville, Texas, to James and Titia Haney. She grew up in Hansford County in the Texas panhandle. She enjoyed telling stores of moving the town of Hansford to Spearman and telling of adventures of her father as a country doctor driving the first car in the county over wagon trails.
A graduate of Texas Tech in 1928, Juanita married fellow student Alwis H. Logan on June 22, 1929. Juanita and Alwis celebrated 66 years of marriage before his death in 1996.
Juanita served beside her husband in many United Methodist churches in north Texas, including Bonham, Paris, Honey Grove, Henrietta, Electra and in Dallas — at Centenary, Urban Park, Cockrell Hill and Walnut Hill. Juanita was a certified director of Christian education, teaching leadership courses in various churches.
When her children were teenagers Juanita returned to school, receiving her bachelor of divinity and master of arts degrees from Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University.
After the death of her husband., Juanita moved to Polson to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Her granddaughter, Charissa Phelps, preceded her in death in 1999.
Juanita is survived by her son, Dr. Jimmie Logan, and wife Daisy, and children Joe, David, Cynthia and Janet, of McLean, Va.; daughter Alita Phelps, and husband Rev. Robert Phelps, of Whitefish, and their son Joel; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and two close nephews, Ralph and Bill Brock.
A memorial service was held June 14, 2006, in Dallas. A memorial service in Whitefish will be held June 20, 2006, at Whitefish United Methodist Church, starting at 10 a.m. Persons wishing to give a memorial in her honor are invited to do so to the charity of their choice.
