| June 28, 2006 11:00 PM

Jack Helber, the head coach of the Glacier Twins AA American Legion baseball team, resigned from his position last week, citing personal reasons.

This was Helber's fourth season at the helm of the Glacier Twins.

"Just being up here in Whitefish, the ballpark is a great atmosphere," Helber said of the best parts of being in the Twins organization.

Helber said he will continue to go to Twins games.

Prior to moving to Whitefish, Helber coached the Miles City Mavericks, another American Legion team, for three years.

Helber also coached the Claremont, Calif., American Legion Cardinals for 28 years and the Claremont High School baseball team for 18 years.

Helber said he is not finished coaching. He will continue to coach the Claremont McKenna College NCAA Division III baseball team.

Helber said baseball has always been a part of his life.

"And it will continue to be," he said.

With the Twins more than halfway through the season, first-year assistant coach Jared Grubb, who played baseball at the University of Portland and had a short stint in the majors, will take the helm.

Helber said he is confidant the Twins will be successful with Grubb as a replacement.

"He'll do a good job," Helber said.
