The good and the bad

| March 1, 2006 11:00 PM

Political campaigns are getting increasingly expensive and disturbingly negative. Local legislative races over the past 25 years have been the exception, but I fear change is coming.

Good candidates present themselves in a positive, honest manner—they have a vision. They are knowledgeable about the issues. They are principled and you know where they stand.

Bad candidates avoid taking a stand on the issues. They focus their time, energy and money attacking their opponent or allowing (and quietly encouraging) third party Pac's to do the dirty work, by phone or mail.

Good candidates work hard. Bad candidates need to spend money.
