Dog park not needed
I am writing to voice my vehement opposition to a recently proposed dog park in Whitefish. The desired location is in the Armory park area and encompasses all five acres of the last open space.
This land belongs to the citizens of Whitefish, and it is totally unacceptable to not only fence us out of it but, further, to use our tax money via the city parks department for its upkeep and liability issues.
Other considerations are safety of dogs and people, defecation (think ring worm), noise, litter, property damage, parking and traffic problems, to name a handful. There are serious reasons why leash laws exist, and a dog park will not mitigate them.
We are not a large urban area. We are surrounded by thousands of acres of open land. This park is not needed.
Our community's assets are limited and precious, and we have a responsibility to develop long-term use of them thoughtfully.
I am asking that people who also object to our open space being taken from us to call me at 862-7504. I can't get back to you until Sunday, so please leave a message.
