Pay attention

| March 8, 2006 11:00 PM

On Friday, Feb. 17, I had the great misfortune of having to call the ambulance for my extremely ill daughter. The Bigfork QRU responded immediately and were absolutely amazing. They were a big part of the reason she is still with us and for that I am extremely grateful.

My issue lies with the 30-mile ambulance ride from our home to Kalispell Regional. It was appalling to me the number of drivers along the way who failed to acknowledge the ambulance and pull to the side of the road. The ambulance driver was often required to pass in unsafe situations because of some idiot. Along Highway 82 even a driver's education car with the instructor in the passenger seat failed to pull over until the ambulance had actually passed it. If this is what the kids today are learning in driver's ed then we all are in big trouble.

My message is this—turn off your cell phone, turn the music down and get your head out of your posterior while driving. We all better pay closer attention and be more responsible as next time it could be you or someone you love who is racing against time.
