Dog park an asset to community
We read Jill Evans' letter to the editor in last week's Pilot regarding her opinion on the proposed dog park. We are guessing that Ms. Evans doesn't own a dog, nor has she ever traveled with one.
When we travel with our dog, as a great many people do these days, one of the first things we do when we get to a city or town is look for a dog park. They are a definite asset to any community that has tourists traveling through it, not to mention that it is a great place for locals and their dogs to socialize.
Taxes are a benefit to all the people in a community, and that is why they are spent on so many diverse things. We will never use the skatepark or have children who will attend the local schools, yet we don't begrudge our taxes going towards these things as they are assets to our community.
What would Ms. Evans use that property for? A park that doesn't allow dogs? Another spot off limits to a great majority of people in this area? As to noise, come on, there is an airport, skateboard park and baseball fields located there. Are the dogs really going to be the loud ones? Does it matter? They are dogs having fun, outside of town and away from all but a few houses.
Everyone who supports a dog park, let your voices be heard.
