For the people

| March 16, 2006 11:00 PM

My name is Ric Smith, and I am a candidate for Senate District 5. I have decided to run for this office because I have an intense passion to give back to a state and people that have given so much to my family and me. Living here since 1981, I have had the opportunity to raise a family and run a small business, allowing me to understand the unique needs, challenges and opportunities we have and will face.

This community has a quality of life that most other places have lost. The questions are "Can we keep what makes this community unique, and still have an economy where our families can earn good wages and get satisfaction from their work? Where families can afford to send their children to college? Where quality health care is affordable?"

I truly believe we can, and we will, if we are smart and plan ahead, and ensure that our state officials do the same. I bring to the table the crucial ability to work with folks from all walks of life. This is why I have support from all walks of life. These community leaders are confident in my bi-partisan solutions, and my eagerness to listen to all people, with an open mind.

And I pledge to you that I will continue what I have done for the past 25 years—improving the dialogue between Montana's people and its government. As your state senator, I will increase citizen involvement to ensure that people are being heard more than special interests, because good government is about and for the people of this state.

I believe people are tired of politicians more interested in what the opposing party is up to instead of focusing on the needs of their constituents. As your elected official, I will be ignoring political affiliation so that I can act on behalf of the people. My guarantee to you is that I will be approachable, I will listen, have an open mind, and work diligently to ensure that the people of Senate District 5 have their voices heard over the partisan fray.

I encourage you to call, e-mail, or write to me with your thoughts and concerns. I would be more than welcome to come and visit with you and your friends.

Best regards,

Ric Smith
