Helmets create illusion of safety

In your recent article "Skate-boarders breaking bones," it should be noted that none of the injuries reported could have been prevented by wearing helmets or pads.
Helmets and pads can protect against some injuries, but they also create a false illusion that anyone wearing them is protected from injury.
We have had only one death in a skatepark in California in more than 10 years, and the user was wearing a helmet and pads.
Skateboarding is a hazardous activity that can result in injury or death whether or not a rider is wearing a helmet or pads.
