Weaver an idea man

| May 17, 2006 11:00 PM

The county commissioners and the sheriff are the county's last line of defense against outside influences and intrusions of illegal, unconstitutional governmental authority. They must have the knowledge, stamina and determination to defend the rights of citizens against such intrusions. But at the same time, they must have the patience and competency to handle such routine tasks as snow removal and neighborly human squabbles.

We need a sheriff who has the professionalism and administrative ability to run an efficient, smoothly-operating department, but also has the creative vision, courage and drive to try new approaches to problem solving. As an example, what a great idea to have juvenile delinquents do roadside cleanup…to be on the "picking up" instead of the "tossing out" end, an educational experience assuring lasting value and fringe benefits.

John Weaver is an idea man with lots of his own, but the ears to hear those of others. Through him we could all build upon each other's sharing of new approaches to problem-solving in our communities. He is "people oriented" but I'll bet he is a real disciplinarian too. Have we heard the words tough love? Citizens will want to be on the right side of the law. It would be in their best interests as well as the community as a whole. The sheriff is a friend. I hope John Weaver will be our next sheriff.

Sincerely,

Clarice Ryan
