Jopek says thanks

Thank you Whitefish for entrusting me with nearly two-thirds of the vote. It's an honor. I will strive for grace in representing all within the district regardless of political differences.

The first bit of snow fell this morning, and the car wouldn't start to get Pam to work. After the 6 a.m. jump-start, I was jolted with how in another seven weeks the 60th legislative session would commence. It's time to get the winter chores done and ready the farm for another four-month Helena tour.

People by and large are happy with the direction our state is headed. I don't see this session changing direction. People deserve clean and transparent government, and slow, steady progress is the key to a secure future.

We are more alike then not, but partisan hacks will want us to focus solely on our differences during the session. What a disservice to our communities. Let's instead cultivate those vast fields of agreement and continue to move our state forward.

We have much work to do in assuring that public lands are not sold for development, that our property tax system is more predictable for locals, that our schools remain great, and Montanans have access to affordable health care.

Our challenge in politics is to weave progressive and independent voices amongst the entrenched echoes of government. It's time to lead, and by golly we will.

Politics is a reflection of our community. Elections would not be won without your kind words and compassion, grass roots organizing and generous support. Thank you.

Whitefish, Montana and America spoke loudly. Your voice is the power heard throughout the halls of government, from aisle to aisle. Give a call, now or during the session, on my cell phone at 250-1184 or by e-mail at mjopek@mt.gov.
