Laura Kirk

Laura V. Kirk, 98, passed away Sept. 27, 2006, at Brendan House in Kalispell.

She was born March 9, 1908, in Mondovi, Wis., the daughter of Andrew and Lena (Julson) Holms. The family moved to Medicine Lake, where she was raised and educated.

She married Fred Vaselenko in 1930 in Williston, N.D., where they were engaged in farming. After Fred's death in 1948, Laura continued managing the farm and several rental properties. She was a very enterprising lady for her time.

In 1950 she married Patrick Kirk, her former high school sweetheart. He passed away in 1971.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Shrine Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star, all in Williston. At different times in her life, she enjoyed golfing, bridge, sewing, entertaining, building and decorating homes, and traveling. She had the opportunity to travel all over Europe with her children.

In 1991, Laura moved to Big Fork, where she resided with her son for many years before moving to the Brendan House in Kalispell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Lena Holms; husbands Fred Vaselenko and Patrick Kirk; her son Bob Vaselenko; sisters Cec Bundlund and Ella Reep; and brother Milo Holms.

She is survived by her daughter Caryl Bennett and husband Bob, of Whitefish; grandchildren Diane Thorson and husband Jerry, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Kirk Bennett and wife Paula, of Lakeville, Minn.; great grandchildren Keira, Dakota and Bennett Thorson, and Connor and Brooke Bennett; brother Archie Holms, of Spokane; numerous nieces and nephews; and her many friends at Brendan House.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Everson Funeral Home in Williston. Urn burial will follow the services.

The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Northwest Health Care Foundation, 310 Sunnyview Lane, Kalispell MT 59901; Brendan House, 350 Commons Way, Kalispell MT 59901; Shriners Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 2472, Spokane WA 99210; Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
