Blackler will make a difference

| October 18, 2006 11:00 PM

Every once in a while someone comes along to throw his or her hat into the political arena who has the heart which drives committed service and remarkable dedication to the community he would represent. Mr. Edd Blackler, candidate for House District 9, is that unique person.

To begin, Edd has devoted considerable time and effort to make our town and surrounding area a more pleasant place to live. He has been a volunteer firefighter, a teacher, a coach, a member of Kiwanis, a member of the 1992 and 2005 versions of the Bigfork Steering Community, has directed the community choir and was a member of the Sliter Park committee. He was one of the three original Bigfork elves and has worked with the Bigfork Development Company. These are but some of the things he has done which show a tremendous investment in the community and bordering region in which we all share our lives.

Edd has extraordinary character. This will help him work with others, from both parties, who share with Edd a desire to make property taxes more equitable, quality health insurance and care more accessible to those who can't afford it, the development of alternative energy possible, and adequate support for education more certain.

I hope our community seriously will consider Edd Blackler as our next representative to the State Legislature for District 9. Not only is he someone we know well but he has shown a willingness to make a difference in a manner marked with collegiality and humility.
