Call for support

| October 18, 2006 11:00 PM

Dear voters of House District 9,

I am asking for your support. We will have a very important legislative session starting in January. We will be deciding on funding priorities, taxation, protecting our families, protecting your property and wallet.

The Republican platform on fiscal restraint, free enterprise, smaller government and local control is a good place to start. The Republican Handshake Plan means permanent tax rate deductions compared to the governor's one time check of $400 to everyone including non-taxpayers. I endorse the lower tax rates, which eases the burden on taxpayers. I endorse the Republican platform of pro life, pro family, pro second amendment, pro business, pro Education and pro health. I endorse the protection of individual rights that are threatened by people who feel they know more than taxpaying citizens and have a desire to control every aspect of our lives. This is why I am a republican.

During last session the other party had almost total control with the governor's office, senate majority and the house leadership with the 50-50 tie. Your vote is important for taxpayers, small business owners and family values that the legislature has the restraint the GOP provides. The 500 million dollar surplus we have is an open invitation for excessive government spending and growth.

As a small business owner I sign both sides of paychecks, pay employee health insurance, workmen's comp insurance, unemployment insurance, excessive liability insurance, significant taxes, deal with over regulation and pay back borrowed money. Legislative experience has taught unintended consequences are often greater than legislative intent. You need a representative with my background in the legislature. I will continue to work with citizen groups and ask the hard questions.

I will reintroduce HB-221-Constitutional Amendment to limit owner occupied dwelling taxable valuation for age 65 and older. When people retire their incomes become fixed but the valuation of their homes increases causing higher taxes and an unfair risk of home loss. I will support public, private, university, home school and vo-tech education. I am endorsed by the MEA-MFT.

Patricia and I are third generation Montanans. Our five children graduated from the Montana University system. Three are educators, one a dietician and a dentist. Our parents and grandparents were small farmers, railroad workers, laborers, health care providers, smelter workers, miners and homemakers.

I have practiced dentistry since 1963. I served in the US Army in Korea and Madigan Army Hospital followed by a private practice. I have served on the Cut Bank School Board, participated with youth activities and charities. I am a National Council of State Legislatures member representing Montana on Health and Human Service issues. I serve on the Three Branches of Government Committee with the Supreme Court and governor's office.

I have the background, desire and legislative experience to serve you and request your support.
