Smith supports public access
Every once in a while you come across a point of view that really resonates. So much so, you'd swear the person who expressed the view took every word right out of your own mind. You read it, and you say, "Hey, that's exactly what I think."
I refer to the Daily Interlake Editorial of September 13th. It discusses House Bill 269, concluding that it is a good piece of legislation. I couldn't agree more. This is a bill which addresses public access to public lands and public waters. It is designed to help Montanans who love the outdoors.
After reading the editorial, I couldn't help but wonder who would oppose such a bill. Well, I didn't wonder long, because I find that in Senate District 5, Verdell Jackson voted against it, and made it clear that he stands opposed to public access to public lands. He thinks the public should be denied access. To me, such a point of view does not reflect what a Montanan is all about. I live here because I want, and do, become a part of the landscape.
There are others who share the same view, and I am very glad Ric Smith, Jackson's opponent, is one such individual. Ric Smith believes public access to public lands is not only important…it's our life. I support Ric Smith. He knows the magic of being tied to the land of our home.
Sincerely,
George R. Taylor
