Wave board defended

| September 20, 2006 11:00 PM

This letter is in response to the Whitefish Pilot's article on Sept. 7, 2006, regarding music at The Wave.

Not once did the article mention the four years Dan and Gayle Weinberg spent helping to bring this first-class facility to Whitefish. The Weinbergs gave countless hours of their time to writing grants and meeting with donors, local clubs, school children, experts and community members.

They also actively sought advice and participation from Whitefish residents to ensure that all of us feel ownership in The Wave.

My second point is Joe Coco's comment that he wants to solve the problem at the lowest level, yet he sent an e-mail to Gov. Brian Schweitzer's assistant. Mr. Coco is suggesting that political connections influence legal issues.

This is not the way the Weinbergs, The Wave board nor the governor do business. It is unconstitutional for a public facility to sponsor religious activities. The Wave board is operating within the law, and I commend them for acting accordingly.

In conclusion, I would like to thank the community for their generous contributions to The Wave. Their generosity allows us to enjoy this excellent public facility at an affordable price.
