The Bigfork Vikings’ tennis team’s next opponents might want to check the team for brooms before their matches.

The Vikes swept the Libby Logger tennis team March 29 in Libby, 7-0.

Libby didn’t make it easy for the Vikes, though. No. 1 single player Owen Roberts’ match went three sets against Steven Hauck, as did Shawn Barret’s match against Hunter Sheffield.

Roberts edged out Hauck in the second set 7-6 after dropping the first set 2-6.

Barret also made a come back after losing his first set 3-6. He topped Sheffield in sets two and three 6-2.

“We’re getting stronger every outing,” Bigfork coach Paul Wallin said. “Libby has a good team, but we gained some experience from (our last meet in) Corvallis.”

Bigfork’s no. 3 and 4 singles players recorded easier victories.

Dylan Richmond beat Chris Schnarkenberg 6-2, 6-3 and Jordan Sabo defeated Cyrus Maloney 6-1, 6-3.

The doubles teams swept through the Loggers, as Travis Boughton and Tyler Butts won their match in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. The other two doubles teams followed suit.

Javier Guevera and Scott Taylor beat Joe Frament and Derek Mckinzie 6-0, 6-1. Bridger Mahlum and Phil Sandry won 6-1, 6-0.

Bigfork plays Kalispell April 9 at 3:30 p.m.

“Kalispell has some real quality kids,” Wallin said, adding that conference opponent Whitefish is close behind as one of the top teams.

Wallin said the Vikes should be back to full strength — back from injury and eligible to play — by the Kalispell meet.
