Club Championship big success

Champions

The 2007 Whitefish Lake Golf Club championship tournament saw some new champions and a couple of repeats. In the men's division Jason Johnstone captured the title by one shot over Glenn Gustafson and Derek Denning. Jason has been the runnerup a couple of times in recent years prior to this year's victory. In the ladies division, Karen Jacobson won for the second time, this time over two-time consecutive winner Chelsea Ray.

Denny Gasser won the Senior Men's Division for the 2007 season with an impressive 74 the second day on the South Course. Mike Girard finished second by one shot with two good days of golf himself. The senior women's division had a repeat winner in Jody Fee to capture her second in a row.

Chelsea Ray pulled off a three-peat by winning the girls junior championship with scores of 82-80 and was second in the overall ladies category. Reed Platke easily won the boys junior championship with rounds of 79-77 over the two days. Reed is a very talented junior player and will be an eighth-grader this fall. Kiley McConnell had an impressive tournament with a last day score of 86 over the North Course.

Member/guest tournament

The 2007 version of the Whitefish Lake Golf Club member/guest tournament will be held on August 25-26. The full field of players will play a two-person best ball the first day followed by a modified Stapleford on the next. The Stapleford format gives players points for pars, birdies and eagles and deducts points for bogies and higher.

Tiger Dominates PGA

Tiger Woods separated himself from the field at last week’s PGA Tournament and did it with exact precision. Tiger dissected the difficult Southern Hills course with laser irons and precisely placed tee shots with nearly every club in his bag. It is phenomenal to listen to Tiger and his Caddy Steve Williams discuss the upcoming shot and how it will be shaped. It was also like Tiger has another gear that others don't possess whenever anyone made a mini-run to challenge the leader of the pack.

Couple's Event

The next couple's event at Whitefish Lake Golf Club will be Sunday, Aug. 19 beginning at noon. Interested couples should sign up in the Golf Shop to be included in the upcoming fun filled event.

High School Golf

With the school year fast approaching, the 2007 version of the Whitefish Bulldog Golf Team started practice on Monday, Aug. 13. Last year's teams both captured the state title and look to be very competitive again this season. The girls may be the more dominant team this year with the boys rebuilding somewhat. Sam Krause and Andre Groschupf will lead the team with the younger players vying for the other varsity positions.
