Riverbend Concert Series
Sunday night was the last concert of the 25th concert season of the Riverbend Concert Series. After a smoky day, many people came out with lawn chairs and umbrellas to enjoy the Don Lawrence Orchestra end the season. The gentle rain that started midway deterred few people and it was a wonderful concert.
Bigfork's historic pattern of volunteerism is solely responsible for the success of the summer series! From the establishment of the park (courtesy of Pacific Power and Light) and the building of the Riverbend Stage (in the early 80s) the Bigfork community has enjoyed Sliter Park and Bigfork businesses have contributed generously to make activities available at low cost.
We owe a great debt to the farseeing originators and sponsors of the park.
I hope we appreciate it every time we take a child or grandchild to play on the swings, have a picnic, or just run around. I like to sit and read a book and enjoy the peace.
The County Park Department maintains the grounds and the bathrooms and that's very important to all of us. Sliter Park is an invaluable addition to the Flathead County Park system.
So it all comes back to how community volunteers happily work for the benefit of the community and it all comes together to make Bigfork a more wonderful place.
The concert volunteers are fabulous. They deal with good or bad weather (with the cooperation of the school district) and make the weekly concerts doable. Without them, the series couldn't survive. Thanks, everybody.
