Support the fire department

| August 30, 2007 11:00 PM

Dear Community Member,

You see them every day in their real jobs - builders, realtors, hospital personnel, machinists, locksmiths, retirees and teachers. You walk by them in the grocery store, at the bank, at the gas station. They are your neighbors. But they also don a different hat, serving our community at all hours of the day and night…as members of the Bigfork Fire Department. These volunteers work on your behalf preventing further damage from fires, assisting in traffic accident scenes, rescuing and protecting citizens from harm.

And now, they need your help.

With so much discussion lately regarding the growth of Bigfork and the impact it has our community and its infrastructure…the water and sewer district, the schools, the traffic and roadways, etc., few know that the Bigfork Fire Department is also struggling to meet the new demands made upon it. They need additional volunteer firefighters, they need increased training tools, more equipment and apparatus, and ultimately…they will need another building and location. Our first goal is to purchase a Fire Training Building. This $120,000 building can be reignited for training purposes and can make a huge difference in the effective training of our firefighters. Wouldn't you want the best firefighting techniques and training if your home is on fire?

At noon on Friday, September 14th, a fundraising golf tournament will be held at Eagle Bend's Lake Nine course. Appropriately called the "Niner-Niner," players will be playing the course twice from different tee boxes. Glacier Bank is sponsoring a $50,000 Hole in One contest on the #2 par 3, and following the tournament Flathead Bank of Bigfork is sponsoring a Brats, Burgers and Band event at the Harbor Village Pavilion. Enjoy the lively music of Blue Smoke and walk around the Bigfork Fire Department fire trucks. Take a moment to talk to the members of our fire department….say hello to your neighbor.

To attend the Brats, Burgers and Band event, tickets are only $9 each and can be purchased at Flathead Bank, Glacier Bank, Eagle Bend Pro Shop or the Mitchell, Deaton office in Bigfork.

Golf tournament play is $99 (which includes a ticket to the follow-up event). Please sign up and pay directly at the pro shop at Eagle Bend by September 11th. (406-837-7310)

We are also asking the business community to step up to the plate and be a sponsor to this event. Corporate sponsorship is $2,500. Community sponsorship is $250. And, of course, we welcome Individual sponsors. Any donation, large or small, can make the difference.

Your tax deductible donation can be made payable to Friends of Bigfork Fire Department and mailed to PO Box 2333, Bigfork, MT 59911, or written at the pro shop when signing up for the tournament.

Thank you most sincerely for being a caring part of the Bigfork community.

Reserve Firefighter,

Joyce Mitchell, President
