Albert Hartman

Albert Hartman, 86, died peacefully in the early morning hours of May 20, 2007 at his home in St. Paul, Minn., surrounded by his family. He was diagnosed with an advanced case of colon cancer in early March of this year.

He was born Aug. 4, 1920, the son of Olin and Vallie Hartman. Albert was a native of Whitefish, where he earned his Eagle Scout badge in 1937.

Albert left Whitefish in 1940 and moved to St. Paul, where he worked for the Great Northern Railroad for more than 30 years.

He returned to Whitefish many times over the years for various class reunions and kept in touch with many classmates and friends.

He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry in 1982.

Albert absolutely loved Whitefish and was very proud of his roots. He last visited Whitefish in the summer of 2005 with his wife Lorraine, his son Mark and daughter-in-law Mary, and spent time with several childhood friends during that visit.

He was preceded in death by parents Olin and Vallie, sister Mary, and son Steve.

Albert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine; daughters Mary Margaret Hartman, Patricia Johnson and husband Jeff, Jane Rose and husband Dan; son Mark Hartman and wife Mary; daughter-in-law Kathy Hartman; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many friends in Minnesota and Whitefish.

Mass of Christian burial took place in St. Paul.
