Skipping Mack Attack

| March 1, 2007 11:00 PM

It is with great regret that I must inform you that myself and my three other friends will be missing Mack days this spring and fall. We have all suggested to you and others both in person and also on the web site that a few more prizes for big fish be added but to no avail. All that happened is another prize for the SMALLEST was added.

Since 3 years ago we have contributed over $8,000 to your community for living expenses, food, gas, liquid libations, etc. While we do understand how the committee wants the reduction of small fish and really doesn’t encourage the taking of larger ones I feel that the “out of towners “ are not being treated fair. Even though we spend more money than the locals we get no consideration for even the little thing such as free launching fees.

We have been treated very good by you and the other committee members personally even though no consideration was given to our financial obligations.

I would have hoped the committee would have considered what we brought to your community financially in the past tournament and what we would bring to the future ones before they chose to ignore our comments.

Thank you for your time and good luck in your future tournaments,

Sincerely,

Dan Olsen

Thanks to QRU

On Feb. 11, my husband fell, injuring his back and possibly other vital parts. My 911 call almost immediately brought Bill and Edith Taylor and an ambulance staffed by Derek Vandeberg, Robin Sticka and Ryan Call. Incredibly, this team transported their 200-pound patient down a flight of stairs by stretcher, and carried him from the garage over ice-covered ground to the ambulance, with scarcely a jiggle. Using those same skills, the crew delivered my husband to the hospital emergency room in Kalispell, where the Taylors came by later to find out how he had fared. We knew Bigfork had a QRU, but experiencing their expertise, efficiency and kindness brought the value and meaning of this vital service home to us. When asked why the ambulance was parked in our driveway that Sunday, I just say, “Contribute, contribute, contribute!”

I was just browsing though some old papers of my mom and dad’s and found some letter dating back to the time we lived in the old Linden place. At the time we lived there it was painted green with red shutters. I remember the time in BigFork with great fondness, had my first crush and one of the first best friends back then and I was only in 1st grade. Went to the old 2 room Swan River school. I remember trying to not learn 3rd grade math, because I was only in 1st grade…did I get confused.

I’m at a time when I’m thinking I’d like to wander back and put roots in there. I’ve lived in Utah for 40 years and was tired of it 20 years ago. Now that mom and dad are gone and my sisters have moved on with their families, I think it’s time for me to think of myself, and go back to a place that I felt comfortable in and it was easy to make a friend or two…

Thank you for letting me share the little trip down memory lane. Perhaps I WILL find my way back!
