Concerned about Foley's control

| March 8, 2007 11:00 PM

He came, he saw, he bought … Whitefish and Big Mountain.

He bought three new restaurants (MacKenzie River Pizza, Mambo Italiano, Craggy Range Bar and Grill) to go along with the one he opened recently, the Cornerhouse Grill.

He has purchased land in and around Whitefish for future development.

He has controlling interest in Winter Sports, Inc., owner and operator of The Big Mountain Winter and Summer Resort.

Development there is on the fast-track with 12 new buildings and other major projects planned and approved in the Big Mountain Village, plus new and improved lifts and runs.

Why does he do it? It would make sense to quietly enjoy his beautiful new discovery by buying or building a nice home and not spoiling it with thoughts of buying chunks of it and developing more.

What does Bill Foley's presence add to the Whitefish area? Has he contributed to projects to enhance life here? Why doesn't his giving match his getting?

There will be other moguls coming to take parts of our dream home and to make money from it as it grows and changes, moving from village to city and pristine to slick and elitist.

Greed makes me sad.
